This outstanding early impressionist work by Dupont exemplifies his early skills as a etcher and draughtsman. This work was published by van Wisselingh, Amsterdam, who also published the etchings of Willem Witsen, M.A.J. Bauer and others. Dupont later mastered the art of engraving, with horses becoming a favorite choice of subjects.

Etching, 1895, Dupont 40, van Wisselingh 305; edition 100. 8 1/4 x 15 3/4 in. Signed in pencil. This is a fine impression on simili-Japan paper. The margins are full and untrimmed. The condition is excellent. This is a major Amsterdam view by this contemporary of Toorop and Hoytema. What was once a canal, this is now a major shopping street in Amsterdam.

Etching, 1895, Dupont 40, van Wisselingh 305; edition 100. 8 1/2 x 15 5/8 in. Signed and numbered in pencil. This is a fine, rich impression printed on a simili Japon paper. The margins are wide and probably full. Excellent condition. Dupont studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and in 1896 he moved to Paris to perfect his etching skills. He became a professor of graphic arts at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 1903. Damrak today is a partially filled in canal running between Centraal station in the north and Dam Square in the south.

Etching, 1895, Dupont 38, edition 100. 8 x 13 in. Signed and numbered in pencil. This is a fine impression printed on a large sheet of cream Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. Dupont's etchings were largely published by E.J. van Wisselingh, Amsterdam, who also published the work of Witsen and Bauer. This fine, early etching shows the Rijksmuseum in the distance at right. Dupont's work is discussed in the recent publication, Holland on Paper in the Age of Art Nouveau, (2014) by Cliff Ackley, pages 168-171.

The margins are substantial and possibly full. The condition is fine. This exquisite rendering of the Oude Kerk is from the collection of P.W. van Doorne (Lugt 4731). This is Amsterdam's oldest building having been founded in 1213.

The condition is very good apart from a small paper loss in the lower left corner and one in the upper right corner. Minor toning notably on the far left edge of the sheet. This superb print is from his series of working horses called "L'Outillage." This stellar print won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition (Exposition Universelle) in Paris.
