In very good condition (with the usual creases from having been folded as issued). Full margins. This remarkable print is a pivotal art nouveau design done in Amsterdam during the 1890s. Lithograph printed in colors, 1899, 13 x 9 1/4 in. Unsigned. The month of May from the calendar published in 1899 by Scheltema & Holkema, Amsterdam, including work by Dijsselhof and also Nieuwenhuis. This is a fine impression of this very rare work; a stellar example of Dutch art and design from "De Nieuwe Kunst" era. In very good condition apart from three small tears just to the image in the upper right corner. The colors are fresh. A complete example of this famous art nouveau calendar is located in the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague. This important calendar is illustrated and discussed in Holland on Paper in the Age of Art Nouveau (2014) by Cliff Ackley. Ex-collection: Hendrik Petrus Berlage (1856-1934), the celebrated architect and designer.

This is a fine impression printed on cream wove paper. The margins are wide and the condition is fine. This very rare work was published as a supplement to the 1898 "Hollandsche Revue." It was printed by L. Kuipers, Amsterdam. Known as a 'red cabbage" design, this exquisite example of Dutch art nouveau lithography exemplfies Lion Cachet's interest in typography combined with fluid, detailed designs from nature. The artist was a master craftsman who also did bank note designs, calendar art, book covers, furniture, carpets,and interiors. His work is included in the recent publication, Holland on Paper in the Age of Art Nouveau, by Cliff Ackley (2014. Provenance: E.H. Ariens Kappers, Amsterdam.
