Landscape 2015-II GRIETJE POSTMA Dutch, (b. 1961) Woodcut printed in colors, 2015, edition 26. 14 5/8 x 23 in. Signed, dated, titled and numbered in pencil. This is a superb impression in fine condition. The margins are full. As with all of Postma's work, this exemplary woodcut is printed from a single block. This is not a multiple block woodcut in the Japanese tradition, but rather, a reduction woodcut printed from a single piece of wood. The artist makes an initial design on the block and then prints the entire edition. She returns to the block and makes more design changes and then re-inks the block and prints on top of the same sheets of paper. This process continues and the end result is a build up of layers of ink resulting in a subtle yet rich overlay of colors. There is very little margin for error in this time consuming yet rewarding process. Grietje Postma is one of the finest woodcut artists working in Holland today. $950 |

Oak Tree Growing Among the Rocks (Le Chene de Roche) THEODORE ROUSSEAU French, (1812-1867) Etching, 1861, Melot R4 (iii/III), edition unknown. 5 1/2 x 8 1/4 in. Rousseau exhibited the painting of the same subject in the Salon of 1861. This is a fine example of Barbizon printmaking at an affordable price. SOLD |
